Overall Design Identification

  • My research methodology was a case study

Participants

  • JB, special education teacher at North Forsyth High School.  She designed and manages the assistive technology lab.

Data Collection

  • Techniques:
  • To collect data, I interviewed the teacher, JB, who created the assistive technology lab for her high school special education students
  • Observation: of the facility created and how it is being used. I will also note how the lab is organized and document with photographs.
  • Document analysis:
    • Utilize data independently collected by JB
  • Second, follow-up interview with JB after examination  the facility
  • Procedures:
    • Contact JB to set up interview/observation date (October)
    • Contact principal at NFHS for approval (October)
    • Draft interview questions (October/November
    • Conduct interview/observation (December/January)
      • I’ve considered trying to do an observation in December during “Finals Week” at the high school since it may provide ample observations
    • Transcribe interview (January/February)
    • Analyze results (February)
  • Instruments/Material:

Data Sources

  • The teacher was my data source (interview[s] transcripts)
  • I analyzed notes from my observation and reported that data
  • I utilized data that she collected for her research study on Assistive Technology

Analysis

  • I began by finally completing the transcription of the interview - a very tedious process.
  • After reading through the interview numerous times, I began to develop catagories of data and to group them.
  • I devised a Inspiration Web that charted my catagories of information:
    • CREATION
    • ACCESS
    • AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT
